 U.S. relations with Mexico are strong and vital. The two countries share a 2,000-mile border with 55 active land ports of entry, and bilateral relations between the two have a direct impact on the lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans, whether the issue is trade and economic reform, education exchange, citizen security, drug control, migration, human trafficking, innovation,or public health. The scope of relations between the United States and Mexico is broad and goes beyond diplomatic and official relations. It encompasses extensive commercial, cultural, and educational ties, with $1.7 billion of two-way trade and during normal economic and health times, there are hundreds of thousands of people crossing the border legally each day. In addition, 1.5 million U.S. citizens live in Mexico, and Mexico is the top foreign destination for U.S. travelers.

In 1847–48, with the United States occupying Mexico at the conclusion of the Mexican–American War, there was talk in Congress of annexing the entirety of Mexico. The result was the Mexican Cession, also called the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo for the town in which the treaty was signed, in which the U.S. annexed over 40% of Mexico.

The SpA advocates for greater self-determination in Guam and other similar territories. The special committee on decolonization agreed to approve the governor's plan for education. The commission's May 2016 report says: “Worked with scientists from the University of Guam to create and approve teaching materials. The Governor's Office collaborated with the Commission to develop educational materials for the public. The US Department of the Interior has approved a grant of 300,000 for education in decolonization, Edward Alvarez said at the United Nations Pacific Regional Seminar in May 2016. "We hope. that this may indicate a shift towards their non-self-governing territories, such as Guam, where they will be more willing to participate in discussions about our future and offer true support to help us push towards true self-government and self-determination. "

The Republic of Yucatan

   Another attempt to join the United States was made by the Republic of Yucatan. This separatist state separated from Mexico due to disagreement with the political situation in the country. The United States did not want to accept the Republic as it would entail a war with Mexico. The state did not last long. The main problem of the breakaway state was the unity of its leaders, who disagreed. Local Indians also took an active part in the uprising.

 Mexican migrants pay 53 billion dollars a year in US taxes Mexicans migrate to the USA looking for work and higher salaries, but those workers pay 53 billion dollars a year in taxes, according to Ignacio Deschamps, head of the Fundación BBVA Bancomer. (The BBVA Bancomer Foundation has helped 20,000 young people in 143 municipalities complete their high school education.)Deschamps claims that for every dollar sent home in remittances, Mexican workers will have already paid 2.50 dollars in US taxes. Hence, in 2008, they would have contributed 53 billion dollars to the US Treasury.
