A Little History of Greenland

     In 1721 Hans Egede sailed to Greenland on an expedition to convert the old Norsemen to Protestantism.  All he saw were the remnants of a crumbling church.  The Vikings had vanished.  He wrote:  “What has been the fate of so many human beings, so long cut off from all intercourse with the more civilized world?... Were they destroyed by an invasion of the natives… or perished by the inclemency of the climate, and the sterility of the soil?”

The Republic of Rio Grande, the territory that separated from Mexico, tried with all its might to become part of the United States. The Rebellious Republic even copied the US government's methods of positioning itself. The republic did not last long. The Constitution of Puerto Rico

 The Constitution of Puerto Rico may be altered by the Commonwealth so as long as its articles do not conflict with the US constitution or the Puerto Rican Federal Relations Act. In 1950, President Truman authorized a bill that would enable Puerto Rico to draft a local constitution for Federal approval with the condition that the new document would not change Puerto Rico’s status as a territory. Along with the bills that were passed were a series of proposals, some enacted and others not, that looked to further stabilize the United States’ role within the island. These bills are labeled as Presidential task forces.

  Mexico’s Membership in International Organizations Mexico is a strong supporter of the United Nations and Organization of American States (OAS). Mexico was elected to a 2021-2022 non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council and a 2021-2023 seat on the UN Economic and Social Council. Mexico and the United States belong to a number of the same international organizations, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum; Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development; International Energy Agency (IEA); International Monetary Fund; World Bank; World Trade Organization; International Maritime Organization; and the Wassenaar Arrangement on conventional arms. Mexico is the 2020 President pro tempore of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
